6 Best Locations for Hunters in the US

Hunting is a long-time tradition, practiced by many people. It is a very popular pastime in the United States, and there are many fantastic hunting locations to choose from around the country. Where you go depends on what type of game you are looking to hunt, the time of year, your skill level and of course – your personal preferences. Here are six wonderful hunting areas to check out:

The Northeast

This is an excellent hunting area which includes the states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and New York. The Allegheny mountains in Pennsylvania are one of the best spots to hunt in the Northeast, even though the mountainous terrain makes hunting more challenging. There is a great choice of animals to hunt for, including bears, deer, grouse, turkey and more, so you’ll never go back home empty-handed.

Alaska

If you’re up for grizzly bear hunting (and skilled enough), Alaska has some prime spots to go after one of these massive animals. Other unique hunting opportunities in the country include black bear, bison, caribou, Dall sheep, moose, mountain goat, muskox, wolf and wolverine, but bear in mind (pun intended) that you have to either be a resident of the state or be accompanied by a resident to be allowed to hunt any of these animals.

Wisconsin

The Northwoods of Wisconsin are an area rich in wildlife. It is covered by tall trees and wetlands that sometimes make it difficult for hunters to spot prey from a distance, but this only makes things more interesting. Game options include white-tailed deer, wild turkey, snowshoe hare, woodcock and ruffed grouse. Another area to try in the state is Wildcat Mountain State Park, which offers open areas in which hunting is allowed.

Equipment Hunting

Alabama

Alabama has the most deer hunting opportunities of any state because of its lush habitats. However, the country offers much more to the hunting fans – you can also hunt for turkey, duck and wild boars in the state’s reserves and wild areas. Specific locations to check out are the Lillian Swamp, Old Cahawba Prairie, Blowing Springs Cave, Pike County Pocosin and the Shoal Creek Nature Preserve.

Arkansas

Arkansas possesses over 500,000 acres of public hunting land that are managed for wildlife production. These lands are distributed among many state wildlife management areas (WMAs). Hunters can find good numbers of white-tailed deer, bear, elk, wild turkey, squirrels (Spring-Summer), quail (Winter), rabbit (Fall-Winter), and other game animals. They can explore the vast national forests in the state, where they will find excellent opportunities to hunt bear as well. Spots to try are Caney Creek, Muddy Creek, Lake Greeson, Howard County and DeGray Lake.

New Mexico

New Mexico is blessed with a variety of landscapes, from deserts to alpine forests and rocky mountains. You can try your hands at elk hunting at the Gila National Forest, which can is located in the Catron County. It is an area well-known for its fine elks. The country also offers deer hunting opportunities, as well as hunting for turkeys. Other areas to check out around the state are the Valles Caldera National Preserve, Valle Vidal or the Cibola National Forest.

Don’t miss out on these lovely natural spots and let us know how it went – we’d love to hear your hunting stories!
